SAM PERRY
"DRAWING: FROM OIL TO PEN AND INK TO DIGITAL ANIMATION AND INSTALLATION, AND BACK AGAIN"
Presented on: Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

A look at decades of all-out artistic pursuit by a master draw-er. Drawing has been central to Sam Perry’s process throughout all of his explorations—in oil painting as well as digital media (including Photoshop and animation) and now installation. See the pioneering and acclaimed animation that brings a life of observational drawing into play with digital media. Here the traditions of making art, in terms of the organizing of form, distill the infinite potential of contemporary media. Drawing in this case is the backbone, the glue that holds together Sam’s wide-ranging endeavors.

Sam Perry is a native of West Palm Beach and a dedicated, life-long artist. He earned his BFA from the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota. Then, after decades of success in exhibiting his art throughout South Florida and teaching other artists, he obtained his MFA from Florida Atlantic University. In 1988 he was awarded the first South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for a Palm Beach County artist. He currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Studio Arts at Palm Beach Atlantic University, as well as at the Digital Media Center, Armory Arts Center and The Lighthouse Center for the Arts in Tequesta. He has work in the collections of Art in Public Places at Palm Beach International Airport and the Norton Museum of Art.
