About Us
OUR PRESENT
Artists in South Florida come from every corner of the world, and even native South Floridians have often lived in many other places. These powerful, diverse experiences and influences get explored in a wide range of ways. Their work covers the gamut of contemporary conceptual art practices, addressing cultural, socio/political, environmental, scientific, race and gender focused and aesthetic concerns. Their work is being shown and recognized through prestigious fellowships, residencies and prizes, and in museums and galleries in South Florida, nationally and internationally.

Art Salons give these artists an opportunity to share their experiences, the work they create, and the modalities they use. Presentations include the materials, techniques and technologies used to convey these ideas. Artists’ presentations are always followed by in-depth discussions between the artist and the audience, offering the opportunity to learn more about the presenter, explore the practical side of being an artist, enhance professional development, share useful resources, and network with other artists.

Art Salons are professionally recorded and archived, and are available within a few days on this website, and on the SOUTH FLORIDA ART SALONS YouTube channel. There are over 100 recorded Art Salons in this archive.

OUR PAST
Art Salons have been meeting since 2012, for most of that time in person at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, and now virtually on Zoom. Professionally recorded archives of almost 10 years of these presentations are available HERE

We invite viewers to look through the very long list of artists in this archive, pick one, then another, and get to know each artist in a new and very personal way. Whether they're artists you've known and respected or are names that are new to you, and whether they are doing work that resonates with your own interests or exploring themes, materials and techniques that you hadn't known much about before, you'll find much to enjoy.

In September, 2022, we changed our name to South Florida Art Salons, to highlight our ongoing inclusion of artists throughout the Palm Beach County, Broward and Miami region. Because the presentations and discussions are now taking place on Zoom, participation by viewers is possible from anywhere on the planet, free of charge.

During our years at the Armory Art Center, there were three biennial group exhibitions of the “Artists of Art Salon”, in 2015, 2017 and 2019. They were opportunities for many of the artists who had spoken in the years preceding each exhibit to exhibit work their work. Works included painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, fiber, video, photography and installations. Information on each of the artists who participated, and many photographs of the exhibits, are archived HERE

It's been a labor of love to organize and record these Art Salons, and we hope to present many more in the years to come.

OUR TEAM
Elle Schorr, organizer and host of Art Salons since 2012, has been exploring the world through a camera throughout her adult life. Growing up in New York City, she has always been excited by contemporary art, architecture and the power of photography. After earning an MSW degree at Fordham University, and pursuing a career in clinical social work, Ms. Schorr returned to photography, where she is known for her multiple perspective / single exposure urban landscapes.

Ms. Schorr has curated the three “Artists of Art Salon” exhibitions at the Armory Art Center, and also two exhibitions at the 8,000 sq. ft. Projects space in FATVillage / Fort Lauderdale: “Opposing Futures”, 2017, (co-curated with Leah Brown and Peter Symons), and “Ripped From the Headlines”, 2019. Several artists who had spoken at Art Salons were among those whose work was shown in those exhibitions. Ms. Schorr has spoken often about her photography, and about the link between emerging artists and the non-profit organizations that provide them with opportunities to exhibit their work, including at Fort Lauderdale Art and Design Week's virtual artDISCOURSE Series in 2020.
