SRI PRABHA

WITH SPECIAL GUEST KELLI BODLE
ASSOC. CURATOR AT THE BOCA RATON MUSEUM OF ART

LAMBENT UTOPIAN PORTALS (GLASS HALF FULL)
Presented on: Tuesday, Jan 24th, 2023

Sri Prabha is a multidisciplinary artist who integrates tenets of geography, nature, time, human origins, ecology and the cosmos into his aesthetic process. He will discuss his recent works and an upcoming multi-media exhibition at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Both his recent public art project for the City of Miami Beach’s No Vacancy and his public artwork for Miami-Dade County’s Art in Public Places program addressed these topics specifically through the concepts of species and human migration in South Florida.

During this exciting talk, the artist will guide viewers through works that focus on experimentation. Prabha’s insightful analysis and visual style catalyze audiences into consideration of ethical and ecological responsibilities, plus how they can further take action in their own worlds. Kelli Bodle, associate curator at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, will join him to offer behind-the-scenes insights on how a large-scale multi-media exhibition is conceived and installed.

Sri Prabha’s works manifest across a range of mediums that include installations, video, light art, sculptural paintings, sound, and NFTs. Sri’s awards include the 2016 South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, as well as permanent public art projects for the Governmental Center in Fort Lauderdale and Miami-Dade Art in Public Spaces.

Sri's work was chosen for inclusion in the 2019 Florida Prize for Contemporary Art Exhibition at the Orlando Museum of Art, where the statement for the resulting work, Spaceresearchcentre/AKA Southern Lights, via the Transmutable Central Dharma Gateway Incorporating the 5 Known Elements, included the following description: "Concepts for the environment coalesced from Indian Vedic knowledge, John Muir’s conservation ethics, Native American connections to the natural world, and contemporary thoughts in science relating to our understanding of the universe. Immersive video projections light up sculptural assemblages, paintings, and photo-based works evoking forms reminiscent of geometries, crystalline shapes, primordial plants, and outer space. In this work, analog and digitally constructed video footage of seeds, galaxies, flora, and fauna spill across the floor, ceiling, and walls, creating an immersive interconnected world."

Other exhibitions include the historic South Florida survey show 100+Degrees in the Shade, an expansive solo installation at Young at Art Museum, and an immersive space outpost install at The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. Other exhibits include The Deering Estate, Boca Raton Museum of Art, pop up installations at the Dupont Building, the Ingraham Building, downtown Hollywood, and public art video installations in the streets of Fort Lauderdale. He has taught photography and mixed media at NSU Museum of Art, and taught at Film Arts Foundation and Expression Center for New Media in San Francisco.

Sri was born in Hyderabad, India, and spent his early years there. Since then he has lived in numerous places, including Germany, Denmark, Seattle, San Francisco, and Boston, and now lives in Hollywood, Florida. When not home, he spends a considerable amount of time engaging in research across the world looking for the nature of existence with the aid of new technologies. Combining his love of travel, exploration, and science, he is constantly pursuing new ways of looking at the natural world and how we connect to it.
