VICTORIA ROSE MARTIN
"MEMORIES IN HAND BUILT CLAY"
Presented on: Tuesday, Dec 17th, 2013

Victoria Rose Martin is a ceramic artist and art educator whose work is a reflection of her life. She describes her pieces as "memories of people, places and things I have known. In the small faces I can see members of my family, people I once knew, and even myself. The work tends to be whimsical with a slightly dark under current."

Victoria's sculptural forms are hand built using low-fire clay, which is why no two figures will ever be exactly the same. The surfaces are decorated with stamped words and a variety of finishes, including oxides, under glaze, and glaze. She also creates watercolors, which are images straight from her sketchbooks. She says of this, "A sketchbook is an inspiration, time capsule, memory keeper and best friend all rolled into one".

Victoria is Department Chair of Fine Art & Graphic Design at Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth Campus. She earned two MFA's, in ceramics and printmaking, at the University of Miami. Her art is collected nationally and internationally. It's in the permanent collection of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, Armenia. She's shown work at SDC London, England, and in 2008, was commissioned to paint Pop Art inspired murals at the Venue in London. She's shown work in numerous galleries including Clay, Glass, Metal, Stone in Lake Worth, the Craft Gallery in West Palm Beach, the Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA, the Florida Craftsmen, St Petersburg, FL, and the Piedmont Craftsmen, Winston-Salem, NC. Her work has been published in Ceramics Ireland, Art Doll Quarterly, 500 Dolls, Contemporary Ceramics, Contemporary Dolls and Ceramics Monthly. She's also written marketing blogs for Create Mixed Media.
