Lisa is attracted to interdisciplinary approaches, utilizing whatever media or processes will achieve the idea, whether by drawing, painting, collage, sewing, or assemblage, using oils, image transfers, found objects, quilted lambskin, and more. In this Art Salon, Lisa will present a lecture about her own artwork, entitled “Miner, Hacker, & Manipulator,” presenting several different series’ that are a result of her “hunting, gathering, and cooking” method - collecting, sorting, and curating images and objects into artworks. Lisa Rockford is an artist, educator, and curator. Lisa was raised in in Palm Beach County Florida, earned her BFA in Painting and BS in Art Therapy from Bowling Green State University, OH in 1999, and in 2001, earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Painting & Drawing program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, IL. Since returning to South Florida in 2007, Lisa has established her reputation in the South Florida art scene. In 2013, she was dubbed a "Rising Star" in Gold Coast Magazine’s article, “40 under 40,” for her presence and impact in the local art community. Lisa was awarded the Innovative Collaborative FAB Grant for her solo exhibition at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood in 2011 and featured in the 2015 survey of Florida artists “100 Degrees in the Shade,” the 2018 “All Florida Biennial,” the Girls’ Club/Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz Collection tenth anniversary exhibition “Change Agents,” and most recently in “Why Shouldn't we Talk About these Things at the Table?” at Florida Atlantic University. Her work has also been shown in over 70 national and international exhibitions, and at museums including The Lowe Museum of Art, Miami (FL), The Toledo Museum of Art (OH), WomanMade Gallery, Chicago (IL), CPR-Center for Performance Research, Brooklyn, (NY), Modesto Art Museum (CA), Grafisch Centrum HogeDRUKgebied, The Netherlands, Galleria L’ Arte Molinella, Bologna, Italy, the Museum of International Contemporary Art, Florianopolis, Brazil, and is in the collections of Girls Club, and Young at Art Museum. Lisa is a tenured Associate Professor in the Fine Arts Department at the Broward College North Campus. Lisa was awarded the Robert Elmore International Exchange Award through the Honors Department at Broward College in 2014 to travel to China, awarded Endowed Teaching Chair in 2018, and selected to for the Critical Thinking Scholars Program. Lisa has presented research at the International Arts & Humanities conference in Athens Greece, The Hawaii International Conference of Arts & Humanities, and an invited speaker at The Perez Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, The Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, Dillard High School, Bowling Green State University, Girls Club-The Collection of Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz, and the Boynton Beach Public Library, presented workshops for Young at Art Museum, and is annually contracted to be an official tour guide for Art Nexus magazine at the official Art Basel Miami Beach and Armory New York city art fairs.
